Unfortunately, he relied very much on his memory and encyclopedic knowledge when giving lectures and left few written notes - we have therefore been left the task of scanning and identifying many thousands of images before passing them on to a suitable archive ( ROMA or the RCHS Online Media Archive).

We welcome comments on potential location, subject matter and historical interest. Each image has a unique six digit identifier beginning with a "1" and ending in an "E" - if not using the comment feature in the gallery, please quote this ID.

You'll notice a number of albums on the site - These are driven by "Tags" on each image; "Overseas", "Rail", "Model" etc. We'll try and update the tags along with the description.

It's possible that Ian's collection includes slides which were not taken by him, but bought, donated, lent or given. If we have infinged anyone else's copyright, please let us know. It was not intentional but we will remove the image (and comments) from the site.
